Public Invited to Protest Against ‘Taking $#!+ Too Seriously’

If you’re tired of the humorless blowhards up in arms about contentious issues like illegal immigration, same-sex marriage, and labor unions, then Improv AZ is hosting the perfect protest for you.

Saturday’s Fake Protest Flash Mob favors ironic, obscure, and non sequitur signage that “protests” the patently ridiculous - so leave your serious issues at home.

The group’s Facebook Event page helpfully suggests several slogans to get you started - including Han Shot First, Jill Pushed Jack, and the obligatory Save Ferris - but participants are encouraged to come up with their own nonsensical signage (with use of 22”x28” or 24”x36” poster board recommended for visibility).

Protest Against Slut-Shaming to be Held in Tucson on Friday

Responding to comments by a Canadian police officer, who reportedly said, “Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized” while speaking to students at York University about community safety tips, activists in Toronto organized a one-off Slutwalk in protest.

Purposely defiant in name, the parade-style event attracted about 1000 people and quickly spread globally - with similar Slutwalks taking place in Boston, Melbourne, and London (to name but a few cities) - all in protest against those who blame the victims of sex crimes, as a statement about sexual assault and victims’ rights, and to demand respect for all.

Historically, the term ‘slut’ has carried a predominantly negative connotation,” Slutwalk Toronto states, “aimed at those who are sexually promiscuous, be it for work or pleasure, it has primarily been women who have suffered under the burden of this label. And whether dished out as a serious indictment of one’s character or merely as a flippant insult, the intent behind the word is always to wound, so we’re taking it back. “Slut” is being re-appropriated.”

To that end, Slutwalk Tucson will be held this Friday, beginning at 5pm from the downtown Tucson Police Department (270 S. Stone) to the Joel D Valdez Main Library Plaza (Congress & Church), where “participants in the parade may dress as ‘slutty’ as they are comfortable doing and are encouraged to bring signs to march with.”

In Your Face, #OccupyWallStreet Protest !

The latest sobering news from Wall Street…

rosinhabela:

My name is Kelly Schomburg, I’m the girl with the red hair in these pictures. I was protesting at the Occupy Wall Street march yesterday when I and several other women were sprayed with mace and subsequently arrested. Many have already seen the video, which has been spreading like wildfire over twitter, Facebook, tumblr, and other video feeds, along with hundreds of other photos and videos. This is my recount of what happened.

OCCUPY PHOENIX, DAY ONE

Witness Mayor Phil Gordon’s metaphorical "Martin Sheen, Put Down That Baby!" political moment!

Watch astounded as Phoenix’s City Manager David Cavazos makes the best argument for replacing our current “Council-Manager” style of city government, with the more robust “Mayor-Council” system, since Will Novak’s “IS IT TIME FOR PHOENIX TO CHANGE ITS CITY GOVERNMENT?”.

Read about behind-the-scene negotiations between protestors and Phoenix city officials in this recounting of events surrounding arrests last night at Margaret T. Hance Park - all in the #OccupyPhx update…

City Officials Betray #OccupyPhoenix Movement

If, after reading the story, watching the above video, and thoughtfully digesting the information, you should have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to direct all inquires to:

Phoenix Mayor Phil GordonDavid Cavazos, City Manager, or your own council member.

Hopefully, these links to so-called participatory government won’t be sabotaged by some anonymous do-gooder going all Operation Payback on the City of Phoenix website. In case of emergency, snail mail can be sent to: 200 W. Washington St, 11th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003 - simply address it to the mayor, non-elected city manager, or individual council member of your choice.
