The feminist movement really is in a pickle these days. It used to be a given that things like prostitution, pornography and stripping were bad, but nowadays there’s some resistance to these time-honoured notions. Women are increasingly coming out as sex workers and demanding rights. As feminists seek to shut down strip bars and criminalise clients, those women are complaining not just that they’ll lose their livelihood, but that they’ll be at increased risk of abuse and violence if their industries go underground! You can’t let such trivial concerns get in the way of your crusade, so below are some handy tips for discrediting these pesky meddlers. Remember: being an actual sex worker doesn’t entitle her to speak about sex work!

“The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is bleeding money. Since assuming the reigns of the MCSO in 1992 the current Sheriff has cost county tax payers not millions, not tens of millions but hundreds of millions of dollars. Starting with a public relations department that acts as a self serving media machine. Not merely providing photo opportunities for the Sheriff but gradually, over the years, meeting out a long procession of media stunts designed to capture headlines.

First tent city, pink underwear, green bologna and of course the posses. Then chain gangs were all the rage. Then female chain gangs. Then female chain gangs burying the indigent deceased. Anything to stir up some “controversy.” When the debate over illegal immigration heated up more performances would ensue. Setting up a perimeter and targeting random “suspects” when over 40,000 felony warrants remain unserved is not efficient police work. None of it has worked.

We are no safer as a result and that only accounts for a portion of the 99.5 million dollars of mis-appropriated funds. The rest used on operations not only targeting political opponents contending for the office but members of the county board of supervisers, judges and journalists. In addition to the nearly hundred million of misused resources, there is the lawsuits, mostly for wrongfull injury and death occuring inside the jails.”

With the August 28th Democratic primary well underway today, political activist and Phoenix punk scenester Coomer has officially written his hat into the ring as a candidate for Maricopa County Sheriff.

You can too, when voting for Sheriff, by writing his name in as your vote of choice.

Readers of AZ Kaos may remember Coomer, who also ran against Arpaio as a write-in candidate in 1996, being arrested shortly after shouting “$100 Million Dollars” during the Maricopa County Sheriff’s speech in April 2011, as that incident was covered in this blog (with video of the arrest itself included).

So, as the saying goes: Vote Early. Vote Often. Vote Coomer.

James Davis doesn’t want any trouble, and he’s as flummoxed as the rest of us when it comes to Stevenson Alabama City Officials objecting to his late wife being buried a stone’s throw from the Davis homestead front porch.

“While state health officials say family burial plots aren’t uncommon in Alabama, city officials worry about the precedent set by allowing a grave on a residential lot on one of the main streets through town.”

In other words, Stevenson city officials are clearly worrywarts who hate a fine tradition…

“By the early 1980’s you couldn’t crack open a punk fanzine without a self-appointed expert running down their version of history of punk. Even worse, they would force their yardstick criteria of what was admissible as punk and what wasn’t allowed, so an entire subculture that encouraged anarchy now had these hall monitors throwing down restrictive rules.

One of the few blasts of fresh air during this dark period were an indefatigable series of cartoons from a guy named John Crawford who mercilessly cut through all the punk rock double-talk and hardcore bullshit courtesy of a Neanderthal character named Baboon Dooley.

According to ZineWiki, the punk fanzine Wikipedia, Mr. Crawford’s comic strip ran in over two hundred different fanzines, like Forced Exposure, Flipside, and Maximum Rock ‘N Roll, who eventually tired of his attack of said fanzine…”

Russian artist Petr Pavlensky sews his mouth together in support of punk rock group Pussy Riot, currently under arrest for their anti-Putin protest.

Richard Bishop and David Oliphant first met in Phoenix, Arizona in 1981 when the sprawling desert city was culturally young and somewhat innocent. The local underground scene was still new, open to all forms of DIY expression. Any given show could include punk, folk, free jazz, prog rock, noise, poetry and even comedy. But before long, hardcore and new wave became more commonplace and the experimental side of the scene was forced further underground by this increasingly specialized set of musical standards.
